The Lyman Museum in Hilo is proud to announce its continued participation in Blue Star Museums, a program that offers free admission for all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

The Lyman Museum is one of only two Blue Star institutions on Hawaii Island, and one of 10 participating museums across the state. This year, more than 1,800 museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are taking part in the initiative.

The effort to recruit museums has involved collaboration with the American Association of Museums, by which the Lyman Museum is accredited. The complete list of participating museums is available at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

The Smithsonian-affiliated Lyman Museum showcases the natural and cultural history of Hawaii. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Visit www.lymanmuseum.org for admission rates and further information about current exhibits and upcoming events.
